C.Bechstein Model B

C.Bechstein Model B

The sound of
C. Bechstein
is naturally perfect for the music of
Franz Liszt.

Especially in
La Campanella,
I increasingly feel that perhaps only a Bechstein can express that sound in its most ideal form.

Because the essence of “La Campanella” is:

🔔 Harmonic resonance
🔔 Lightness and agility
🔔 Transparency in the high register
🔔 Bell-like articulation

And Bechstein has a very special ability to make the treble shine while remaining:

✨ Never explosive
✨ Never muddy
✨ Never blurry
✨ Never harsh or metallic

Especially those repeated high notes in the right hand.
On many heavier pianos, they can become:

“ding ding ding” — almost hammered.

But on a great Bechstein, the sound becomes more like:

✨ Bells floating in the air
✨ Full of air and distance
✨ A silver-like glow
✨ Something luminous and mysterious

That world of purity is deeply moving to me.

The piano in this video is an 1894
C. Bechstein.

After rebuilding, the piano became incredibly clear, pure, and powerful — almost like a young Bechstein again.

But the most beautiful part is that it still retains its original soundboard.

Just like a hundred-year-old violin,
wood that has aged for over a century develops something that newer instruments simply cannot imitate.

That pure yet glowing sound attracted Liszt.

And it attracted me too.

Over the years, I have played many pianos:

Yamaha Corporation,
Steinway & Sons,
and many others.

But the one that endlessly fascinates me is still Bechstein.

As a piano businessman,
if I could only bring one piano back to America,
I would probably still choose a Hamburg Steinway.

Not because I love Steinway more than Bechstein.

But because I understand that many people are still more obsessed with Steinway.

As a service provider,
I should first consider what customers are looking for.

But if I could choose two pianos,
then it would absolutely be:

Hamburg Steinway
and
Bechstein.

Because I want to offer a completely different kind of sound.

And honestly,
that is my true love.

A restrained love.
And an endless fascination.
