Steinway&sons Model M
πΉ 1912 Steinway Model M β A Century-Old Voice That Defied Time
I personally found this extraordinary Steinway Model M in Las Vegas, where it had spent much of its life in an extremely dry climate. Like many cherished family instruments, the previous owner had a deep emotional attachment to the piano β and the moment I first played it, I immediately understood why.
The tone was already exceptional:
warm, singing, and deeply expressive. What impressed me even more was the condition of the original soundboard. Despite being built in 1912 and living for decades in the desert dryness of Las Vegas, the piano had absolutely no soundboard cracks β something incredibly rare for a piano over 100 years old.
During its restoration in Europe, the piano underwent a professional drying process before the acoustic rebuilding work began. The soundboard was exposed to an extremely controlled humidity level of approximately 5β10%, essentially a stress test for the wood itself. If a century-old soundboard can survive that environment without cracking, it speaks volumes about the quality of the original Steinway materials and craftsmanship.
Remarkably, this piano passed that test flawlessly.
The result is an instrument with an exceptionally pure and resonant voice. Its tone has a rare βsingingβ quality β notes seem to float effortlessly, sustaining with remarkable beauty and length. In lyrical music, the sound feels almost as if it defies gravity, lingering in the air .
This piano represents something truly special:
the marriage of master-level European restoration craftsmanship with the irreplaceable soul and materials of a genuine Golden Era Steinway.More than a piano, it is over a century of musical legacy brought back to life.
